Green Lake jogger fights off early morning attacker

Feb 11, 2013, 9:17 AM | Updated: 11:37 am

A woman jogging on the outer path near Seattle’s Green Lake Monday morning fought off an attacker, who tried to pull her into some bushes.

“She reported than an unknown man, a stranger, came up behind her, grabbed her and attempted to pull her into the bushes,” said Seattle Police Detective Mark Jamieson. “The woman was able to break free of the suspect and he took off running.”

The attack happened near Wallingford Avenue, near the south end of the lake.

Jamieson said a man on a bicycle saw what happened “and he attempted to follow the suspect and reportedly the cyclist lost sight of the suspect in the residential area just north of where this happened.” The cyclist did not return to talk to police officers, according to Jamieson.

The attacker is described as a white man in his 20’s, 5’7″ to 5’8″, medium build, short brown hair, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt or jacket.

Police said there was about a 15 minute delay in reporting the attack, which might have made it more difficult to track down a suspect.
