Hot temperatures melting US 2 near Monroe

Jun 24, 2015, 9:19 AM | Updated: 9:50 am

Heavy traffic and the hot temperatures are causing spots along Highway 2 to melt.

“Back in early June, we received word that the chip seal on US 2 was pulling up,” said Kris Olsen with the Washington State Department of Transportation. “And the way that it was tracking across the road, it made it look like the road was melting.”

The chip seal was applied on a portion of the highway between Monroe and Gold Bar as a temporary fix before repaving could begin.

The WSDOT has put down sand as a temporary repair to absorb oils on the road. Crews are expected to begin laying new asphalt on July 6. Drivers can expect daytime lane closures.
