A 30-year-old man walking across the freeway early Wednesday morning died after being hit by a car, prompting hours-long delays throughout the area.

The victim was walking from the right shoulder to the left shoulder on I-5 near Yesler Way, according to KIRO 7.

The pedestrian was struck by a 48-year-old driver in oncoming traffic, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

At approximately 1 a.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) posted on social media that a collision was blocking two left lanes on southbound I-5, WSDOT announced.

Several emergency vehicles responded to the scene near Yesler Way, and WSDOT advised travelers to use caution while passing through the area.
