When it snows, bus service will now be free in King County.

Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles proposed it after February’s series of snow storms kept many people home for days, and kept others mired in gridlock. She says it could save lives by keeping people from driving in extreme weather.

Washington State Fair adds metal detectors, beefs up security

“I think we all remember the great snowfall of the winter of 2019; people referred to it as Snowmageddon,” Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles said. “The city of Seattle and much of King County were pretty much paralyzed.”

She hopes making transit free will encourage non-bus-riders to try it out, and prevent collisions on slippery roads.

How exactly would a tsunami affect Washington state?

King County metro supports the measure. Officials estimate it would cost more than $64,000 per day.
