King County Sheriff’s detectives are looking for witnesses to a robbery involving more than $400,000 worth of diamonds in SeaTac on Tuesday around noon. The victims are employed as diamond couriers and were in town from Hong Kong selling diamonds.
The victims were driving in a black Nissan onto the NB on-ramp to I-5 from S188 Street when another car cut them off and abruptly stopped in front of them, according to the Sheriff’s office. Another, as yet unidentified vehicle, struck the victim’s vehicle from behind.
Two men wearing masks and sunglasses approached the victim’s vehicle, assaulted the driver and broke out two windows of the car, detectives say. One of the suspects allegedly reached into a broken window and grabbed a backpack containing the diamonds, value estimated at more than $400,000. The suspects then fled in their vehicle, described as a newer model 4-door, possibly a BMW or Mercedes.
One witness told police a third suspect stayed near the suspect vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victims while the other two suspects robbed them. Before fleeing one of the suspects punctured tires on the victim’s car.
The suspect vehicle is described as a black, newer model 4-door, possibly a BMW or Mercedes. The suspects were all described as wearing black clothing, including hooded jackets, masks and sunglasses. Both victims believe the suspects were white men since they could see their foreheads during the robbery.
