KIRO Radio significantly expands traffic coverage

Oct 24, 2014, 6:33 AM | Updated: Oct 26, 2014, 11:09 pm

From jacknifed semi-trucks to construction closures, getting around our area seems to be harder every day, with each commute this week bringing a new level of frustration.

Sure you can get a traffic report or check an app that tells you where the back up is, but what’s the real story? What are all the issues at play in making driving around the region such a headache?

Award-winning KIRO Radio reporter Chris Sullivan shares your pain, and wants answers just like you do. That’s why he’s heading up new, expanded traffic coverage beginning Monday morning on KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and MyNorthwest.com.

“We’re treating traffic like the news story that it is,” Sullivan says. “We’re putting more of an emphasis on drivers, ways around problems, and potential solutions.”

Along with providing extensive traffic reports every 10 minutes on the 3’s from 6-9 a.m. (:03,:13,:23 etc.), Sullivan will expand his popular series “Chokepoints,” which examines the worst places for regular traffic tie ups in the area. He’ll go in-depth on the key transportation issues around the region, from bike lanes to the Legislature.

“Drivers tell us all the time they don’t feel enough is being done about congestion. I’m going to be advocating for the driver,” Sullivan says.

Sullivan’s reports will focus on morning drive. Longtime KIRO Radio traffic report Kimi Kline will bring expanded traffic coverage to the afternoons from noon to 7 p.m., helping get you home.

“I’m as frustrated as you are,” Sullivan says. “It shouldn’t take me two hours to get to a Mariners game from south Everett — and I want to know why it does.”
