Hundreds of lucky service members at Joint Base Lewis McChord and their families will be getting the first look at the highly anticipated blockbuster Iron Man 3.
The Tacoma-area base has been picked to host a gala premiere Wednesday to coincide with the Hollywood premiere of the movie.
Just like in LA, JBLM’s Carey Theater will be decked out with a red carpet, posters, and other memorabilia. Select attendees will get to speak with the stars via Skype on a big screen TV.
“For soldiers and airmen and family members to get the chance talk to Robert Downey Jr. or Gwyneth Paltrow via Skype right here from base to Hollywood, that’s a really neat event and neat opportunity and we are really looking forward to it,” said JBLM spokesman Joe Piek.
Piek said JBLM got the call after Marvel contacted the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, which decided the base was best for such an event.
“We have a really good reputation here of handling big events and celebrities coming by the base,” he said.
The demand has been overwhelming. Nearly 960 service members and their families scooped up the tickets as soon as they were announced on the JBLM Facebook page.
“We had people standing in line early Saturday to pick up tickets for this,” Piek said.
The rest of the country will have to wait until Iron Man 3 officially premiers May 3.
