A waterfront mansion in Medina was sold by the heir to the Scripps media fortune in the city’s largest real estate transaction of 2026.

Edward Scripps Jr. and his wife, Christy, sold the home last month for $22.8 million, a home they built in 2020 and watched sit on the market for more than a year, according to The Seattle Times.

The initial listing put the nearly 7,000-square-foot contemporary-style home on the market for $33.8 million last April. The most recent assessed value for tax purposes on the home is about $24.2 million.

The Medina home includes a private dock and 144 feet of waterfront along the eastern shore of Lake Washington.

Scripps Jr. is the great-grandson of the man who founded E.W. Scripps Company, one of the nation’s oldest and most widespread local television broadcasters.

The Scripps family has an estimated net worth of $11.5 billion, making them the 49th-richest family in America, according to the Forbes Richest Families List.

The family fortune began with Scripps’ great-grandfather, Edward Willis Scripps, and his founding of the Penny Press in 1878 in Cleveland. The newspaper was the foundation for what eventually became a broadcasting empire under the E.W. Scripps Company, according to The Seattle Times.

The company sold its cable television holdings through Scripps Networks Interactive in 2017, which included channels such as Food Network and HGTV, to Discovery for $14.6 billion. Scripps currently operates roughly 60 local broadcast television stations.
