Mudslide traps neighborhood in Index

Dec 18, 2013, 10:38 AM | Updated: 1:18 pm

Several homeowners were trapped in remote Snohomish County by a mudslide that occurred just after midnight Wednesday.

The slide blocked about 25 homes from Highway 2, south of Index. Snohomish County’s Shari Ireton said no one was hurt, and the residents told police that they’re okay.

“They’re pretty resilient,” she said. “They’re used to this kind of thing in that area, whether it’s due to weather or flooding or landslides. So they’re prepared to hunker-down for a while.”

Power was knocked out by the slide, but was restored early Wednesday morning.

Crews were able to open lane to traffic but are still working to clear the entire road.
