A crash involving “multiple fatalities and serious injuries” has blocked U.S. Route 101 near Shelton, according to the Washington State Patrol, with troopers saying a suspected DUI driver has caused a deadly crash.

Trooper Katherine Weatherwax says a driver on U.S. 101 in Shelton crossed the center line and crashed into a dump truck.

Two people have died and two more were seriously injured, and investigators say the driver who caused the crash was one of the people who were seriously injured.

With seatbelt use down, car crash fatalities have risen 20%

WSP stated the collision involved a dump truck and multiple cars on U.S. 101 near Wallace Boulevard. Both directions of the highway are blocked.

All southbound traffic is being detoured onto Wallace-Kneeland Boulevard. All northbound traffic is being redirected onto Shelton-Matlock Road.

“Our hearts go out to all those affected by this tragic incident,” Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said in a tweet.

A half-mile stretch of U.S. 101 is expected to be closed for several hours during the investigation, and officials are advising commuters to find a different route.

This is the second deadly crash in as many days that is suspected to be caused by an impaired driver, after a passenger car collided with two semi-trucks and another passenger car on I-5 yesterday.
