Near-perfect Northwest day ahead; Saturday glorious as well

Apr 28, 2023, 8:05 AM | Updated: 9:47 am

We’re going to have near-perfect Northwest weather Friday and Saturday, so if you can get away from work and start celebrating the weekend early… DO IT!

Is warmer spring weather just around the corner?

We expect some clouds in the morning will give way to mainly sunny skies for the afternoon. The high will be a glorious 76 today.

The National Weather Service in Seattle said that we will be seeing higher-than-normal temperatures, maybe as an apology for a long and gloomy winter.

An upper level ridge will influence the Pacific Northwest through Saturday, promoting dry weather and above-normal temperatures across western Washington. Upper level troughing will then move back into the region on Sunday as the ridge pushes east, bringing the return of cooler temperatures and shower activity.

The forecast shows overnight lows generally in the mid-to-upper 40s.

There may be some exceptions to this along the coast, where lows could bottom out in the lower 50s due to both the proximity to water and the potential for a few low-level clouds to push very slightly inland.

The breakdown for the weekend through Monday:

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low of around 55 degrees. North-northwest winds seven to nine mph, becoming south-southeast after midnight.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 76 degrees. South southwest wind around nine mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low of around 51 degrees. South wind six to 10 mph.

Sunday: A 20% chance of showers after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 62 degrees.

Sunday Night: A 20% chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low of around 49 degrees.

Monday: A slight chance of showers before 11 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60 degrees.

Though the warmer weather returns during the next few days in the days ahead, local lakes and rivers remain dangerously cold.

The United States Geographical Survey offers a few examples:

Upper Nooksack R: 41° F

Skokomish R: 40°

Tolt R: 45°

Skagit: 46°

Local authorities say that this is the time of year that they see an increase in drownings, so don’t mistake the warm temperatures for warm water.
