The Puyallup Fair has begun taking applications to fill roughly 3,000 temporary positions for when the fair starts up in September.

More than 600 people had already submitted applications by noon Monday, four hours after online applications opened up.

“So a lot of people are making sure that they get their name in there early so that they can connect with that job they want,” said Spokeswoman Karen LaFlamme. “These jobs are really vital for a lot of people. It helps them make ends meet during the rough economy and for others, it’s a way of getting out, getting in that real fair mood and creating great memories.”

LaFlamme said there are a variety of job openings including food service workers, ticket takers, and ride operators. Starting pay is minimum wage, which is $8.67 an hour.

Those who wish to apply can do so online at Go2WorkSource.com.

The Puyallup fair begins Sept. 9 and runs through Sept. 25.
