Olympia man sentenced for shooting cop during drug raid

Jun 14, 2013, 9:10 AM | Updated: 9:32 am

A Thurston County judge offered no leniency to an Olympia man convicted of shooting a SWAT officer during a drug raid in 2011.

Superior Court Judge James Dixon said he sentenced Christopher Self, 40, to a high-end sentence of 18 years in prison, in part, because of Self’s lack of remorse for firing his gun at two police officers. One officer suffered a through and through arm wound.

The defense asked the judge for a term at the low end of the sentencing range. Self told the judge he did not hear the SWAT team knock on his door and announce themselves adding he never intended to injure anyone.

The prosecutor told the judge he found it difficult to believe Self’s claim that he didn’t know they were cops.

The Olympian reports Self pleaded guilty to assault after the start of his trial for attempted murder.
