One arrested after Federal Way explosion

A Federal Way man was arrested after an explosion that destroyed an SUV Tuesday evening.

The explosion happened near the 29800 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest around 6 p.m. Neighbors report hearing a large boom, and then seeing pieces of the vehicle raining down.

A neighbor’s yard caught fire. Another neighbor found pieces of the truck on his roof.

No one was injured in the blast.

The man was arrested for “malicious explosion of a substance in the Second degree.”

Agents from the ATF joined detectives investigating the cause of the blast.
