Despite receiving many tips about a suspect who assaulted a 9-year-old girl in an Edmond’s grocery store last week, police are still searching for the man. An anonymous tip has now led investigators to another store in Lynnwood where they discovered that a similar assault occurred just one hour later.

The first assault occurred at the Edmond’s Ranch 99 on Sept. 15. According to Sgt. Shane Hawley with the Edmonds Police Department, another assault happened at a Lynnwood H Mart.

“An anonymous tip led us to check the H Mart store in Lynnwood for additional video,” Hawley said. “The tip came from a father that reported the same man tried to sexually assault his daughter, about one hour after our incident.”

Sgt. Hawley said the video from the Lynnwood H Mart shows the same suspect “staring at people and clearly touching himself with his hands in his pockets.” While the video clearly shows an assault happened in Lynnwood, it was never reported to police. Edmonds investigators are asking the recent anonymous tipster to contact them for further assistance in the case.

Both stores are pan-Asian groceries.

First assault at Edmonds Ranch 99

On Sept. 15 around 4 p.m., Edmonds police responded to a report of an assault of a 9-year-old girl inside the 99 Ranch Market in the 22600 block of Highway 99. KIRO 7 previously reported on the incident:

Sgt. Shane Hawley told KIRO 7 a mother was at the store with her two daughters earlier today. While the mother was shopping the two girls were roaming the store. At the same time a man began to follow the girls. At some point he cut off one of the girls, and reached down to grab her private area.

The assault happened in a matter of seconds, after which the man quickly ran out of the store. Police describe the suspect as a white male in his 50s or 60s with a possible goatee. He was wearing a blue shirt and dark shorts at the time of the incidents.

Anyone with information can submit an anonymous tip to Edmonds police via the department’s website.
