According to Pierce County Detective Ed Troyer, the deputy was “one of the deputies that chased down and worked at catching” the suspects involved in the fatal shooting of Pierce County Deputy Daniel McCartney.

“And here we go … here we are again,” Troyer told reporters.

The driver of a stolen vehicle attempted to “run over” the deputy just after 4 a.m.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, the deputy spotted a stolen Honda at Sunrise Boulevard and Meridian. The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over.

Refusing to pull over, the suspect tried to ram the deputy’s patrol car, according to the sheriff’s department.

The deputy used a PIT maneuver in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

The deputy exited his patrol car. The driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to “run over” the deputy while backing up. The deputy fired two shots into the rear window at 4:11 a.m.

Neither of the two suspects in the stolen vehicle were shot, but did have minor injuries.

The two suspects are a 26-year-old male and 19-year-old female. The male is a convicted felon with a history of possession of stolen property and motor vehicle theft.
