Crowds of protesters are demanding liberation from social distancing rules — if only viruses responded to demonstrations!

Except now that I think of it, they just might.

It looked like those protesters in Michigan were gathering in large groups without masks, which is a pretty gutsy thing to do. But depending on how they feel in 14 days, it could turn out that it was a really dumb thing to do. And that’s the problem. There’s no way to know.

To gather in a group these days is like a game of tag where everyone could end up being “it.”

What that tells me is that you could reopen every business in America tomorrow only to find that a lot of us are going to stay right where we are, unless we feel it’s safe.

I think I know what would do the trick to solve that problem.

Two weeks ago, I’d have felt like a terrorist walking into a grocery store with a face mask on. Right?

Today, I would feel naked without one. Now, I feel like the human mouth has become a private part that you just don’t display in public; certainly not to strangers.

So, the real key to opening the economy is a simple sign in the door: “No Mask, No Service.” If it’s the kind of store where people like to touch stuff before they buy – “no mask, NO GLOVES, no service.”

Although, strangely, if you’re barefoot — I wouldn’t care.
