Scam artist stiffed landlords, lived in expensive homes

Mar 18, 2013, 10:01 AM | Updated: 11:28 am

A suspected scam artist accused of defrauding lenders for years while living in expensive houses from North Bend to Woodinville now faces charges.

King County prosecutors say the alleged crime spree started seven years ago when Jessica Carde moved into a $2.5 million house in Preston while the owner was out of town. She signed a lease but was delinquent on her rent and was evicted after living there for eight months.

Prosecutors claim that scheme was repeated several times in North Bend, Kirkland and Woodinville.

Over time, prosecutors claim Carde posed as a wealthy potential buyer, tricked lenders and stiffed landlords. SeattlePI.com reports she even posed as a brain wave specialist while supposedly treating a stroke victim and trying to obtain power of attorney.

Prosecutors claim the woman printed up business cards, variously describing herself as an executive life coach, meditation specialist and neurobiofeedback technician.

Carde is charged with multiple counts of theft and mortgage fraud and remains at large. Charges were filed March 11. Bail is set at $150,000.
