Seahawks’ punter Jon Ryan will soon have a new way to get his kicks: marriage.
The colorful Canadian capped off Seattle’s successful Sunday by getting engaged to popular comedian and longtime girlfriend Sarah Colonna in the evening following the NFC West title-clinching win over St. Louis.
People Magazine reports Ryan, 33, proposed at his Newcastle home.
“It was a complete surprise. We are both so excited. I definitely wasn’t expecting it when I arrived in Seattle last night,” Colonna told PEOPLE of the proposal. “Jon called both of my parents to ask their permission, which they happily gave.”
Colonna, a New York Times bestselling author and former regular on Chelsea Lately, says the pair met via Twitter after Ryan had cast member Ross Mathews “put in a good word for him” and sent her a message.
“And – well, it worked. We began dating shortly after in February, and we both just knew we had found our perfect match,” she said.
Both Ryan and Colonna posted the news on their respective Twitter pages:
