The Coast Guard ended its search for a Seattle-based crabbing boat with six crew members on board that vanished in the Bering Sea.

Former captain: Survival after capsizing in Bering Sea rare

The Coast Guard received an emergency electronic signal on Saturday from the 98-foot Destination. Searchers spotted a debris field containing buoys, a life ring and oil sheen, near St. George, about 650 miles west of Kodiak.

For loved ones, their worst nightmares have come true.

Gail O’Grady of Kitsap County says her husband, Larry, is one of the people who is missing.

“You need to be honest and tell people how you feel and tell them that you love them as often as you can,” she said.

Rear Adm. Michael McAllister of the Coast Guard 17th District issued the following statement:

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the six crew members during this extremely difficult time,” McAllister said. “The decision to suspend a search is always difficult and is made with great care and consideration.”
