Seattle-area carpenters return to picketing Monday, set to bargain this week

Picketing activities across Seattle by the Northwest Carpenters Union will resume Monday, following a temporary pause after some wildcat strikes that were not approved by the union.
According to the union’s website, both sides — AGC of Washington and the Northwest Carpenters Union — have agreed to go back to the bargaining table this week.
Meanwhile, some social media posts and emails are being sent about potential protests planned as tensions rise between workers and union leadership.
The NWCU website now has a link to a petition demanding outsiders stop using carpenters and their strike for their own political agenda.
Northwest Carpenters Union pause picketing Friday after unofficial strikes
All picket activities had been paused Friday. In a letter from the union team, it stated that “roaming protests headed by a small, unsanctioned group of protestors, that includes union and non-union members” led to Friday’s temporary closure.
On Sept. 11, 56% of the union membership rejected the initial agreement and voted to go on strike. The contract extension expired at Sept. 15 at midnight. Picketing began on Sept. 16.
