Seattle police make more than 50 arrests in citywide retail theft operation

Seattle police officers made more than 50 arrests and recovered thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise Wednesday.

The arrests were following a citywide retail theft operation. According to the SPD Blotter, police started the operation before 8 a.m., focusing on theft operations that were targeting nine large retails and grocery stores in Seattle.

When the operation concluded more than 12 hours later, around 10:30 p.m., officers had arrested 49 people for crimes including burglary, assault, organized retail theft, and shoplifting.

Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise were recovered and returned to the vendors. As seen in photos posted by the SPD, the stolen merchandise included clothing, Tide pods, utility knives, small appliances, backpacks, sunglasses, and bottles of alcohol.

As part of the operation, police also identified individuals who were purchasing stolen items at 3rd Avenue and Pine Street in the downtown core. Officers arrested four additional people for trafficking stolen property.

Of the 53 arrested, 16 were booked into jail, 37 were arrested and released.
