Car struck by train in Snohomish County shuts down road after driver goes around crossing arms

A car was struck by a train in Snohomish County early Thursday morning, closing down Airport Way after the driver went around the lowered railroad crossing arms.

At approximately 6:04 a.m., Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) deputies were dispatched to the collision site at Airport Way and Lowell Snohomish River Road, SCSO confirmed to KIRO Newsradio.

The vehicle was occupied by one person who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency medical services and fire personnel are en route to the scene.

There is currently no estimated time for Airport Way to be reopened.

Snohomish County Fire District 4 advised that emergency crews will be working throughout the area.

Travelers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
