Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist says filing criminal charges against a Tacoma man who shot and killed his mother would “serve no constructive purpose.”

“The facts in this case are undisputed. Everything suggests this was an accident,” Lindquist said.
Police say the 28-year-old killed his mother, 63, after mistaking her for an intruder. He has no criminal history.
On March 11, the man called 911 from his Tacoma home and said he killed his mother. He was “hysterical and screamed that his mother was dead and that he shot her,” according to the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office.
When officers arrived, they could hear the man screaming.
“Oh my God… I shot her… she’s dead… mom… I killed my mom! I thought I was being robbed.”
The woman’s body was found just inside the front door. She was shot multiple times.
The man said he heard someone on the front porch. Thinking it was someone trying to break in, he opened fire.
The man was on suicide watch after the incident. He was released Wednesday.
