Seattle’s Navigation Team told KIRO 7 the series of tents setup on a sidewalk near on Third Avenue near Broad Street will be torn down next week.
The couple who started it were provided airfare by a non-profit to go live with family members out of state, according to reports.
Inhabitants of the encampment previously refused help from the city, KIRO 7 discovered.
“We don’t want to change our lifestyle to fit their requirements,” Melissa Burns, who helped build the original tent, told KIRO 7. “We intend to stay here. This is the solution to the homeless problem. We want autonomy, right here.”
