Two WA men arrested in connection with Jan. 6 insurrection

A father and his stepson from Washington state have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 insurrection.
According to a press release from the Justice Department, the two men are facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
Richard Slaughter, 40, of Orting, WA and Caden Paul Gottfried, 20, are said to have disrupted a joint session of Congress meant to certify the presidential election.

The criminal complaint accuses the pair of “assaulting, resisting, or impeding law enforcement officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, interfering with law enforcement officers during a civil disorder.”
According to court documents, Slaughter and Gottfried illegally entered the Capitol grounds on Jan. 6, 2021. They joined rioters in the area of the Lower West Terrace.
The two were arrested in Tacoma and the case is being investigated by the FBI’s Seattle Field Office and its Tacoma Resident Agency.
They were expected to appear in court Wednesday in the Western District of Washington.
The Justice Department said since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 880 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
