U.S. 2 has fully reopened, after repairs were completed from last month’s catastrophic flooding and mudslides.

The Washington State Department of Transportation says the highway is open in both directions, without a pilot car, from the Stevens Pass Summit to Coles Corner.

Part of that section of roadway was damaged in December, after an atmospheric river from the Pacific Ocean brought heavy rains and severe flooding to our region.

Repairs started December 18th, after flooding from the Skykomish River washed away part of the road and caused it to sink.

That limited traffic to Stevens Pass to just two lanes as crews worked to repair the damage.

While that section has reopened, U.S. 2 near Tumwater Canyon remains closed from Coles Corner to Leavenworth, with a detour route set up on the Chumstick Highway.

That highway has a lower speed limit, so you can expect longer travel times.

WSDOT says repairs on the Chumstick Highway will take place next week and that may also affect travel in the area.

Drivers should always check conditions before departing and be ready for heavy snow, compact ice, and slush on the highway.
