Voters across the state should expect to start receiving their ballots soon for the upcoming Primary Election on Aug. 3.

With deadlines looming, King County hits pause on push for ranked choice voting

The 18-day voting period begins Friday, July 16, and lasts through election day. Ballots include a prepaid-postage return envelope, so voters who choose to return their ballots by U.S. mail do not need to pay for a stamp. Voters may also choose to place their ballots in an official drop box up until the deadline of 8 p.m. on election day.

As usual, voters are encouraged to mail their completed ballots early. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Aug. 3.

“I recommend Washingtonians mail their ballot early to ensure their votes count and their voices are heard,” said Secretary of State Kim Wyman. “During this primary election, voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on local positions and issues that affect our everyday lives, from mayoral and city council races to school boards, fire districts, and more. I encourage every eligible voter to participate.”

Registered voters can access their personal voting information, update their registration, view their online voter guide, locate a ballot drop box, and check the status of their ballot online at VoteWA.gov.

You can also register to vote online, but you will need to have a valid state driver’s license or ID. Any voter registrations must be received by Monday, July 26, online or by U.S. mail. After July 26, you can register in person at a county elections office until 8 p.m. on Aug. 3.
