Emergency crews have responded to the scene of a helicopter crash in Clallam County, at the north end of the Olympic Peninsula.
Authorities have confirmed that a UH-1B helicopter — better known as a “Huey” — crashed near the West Twin River, which is northwest of Lake Crescent. The pilot did not survive the crash.
The wreckage was found just before 10 a.m. Friday. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
The pilot was doing forestry maintenance near the border of the Olympic National Park Friday morning when they sent out a distress call.
A logger was able to get down the steep forest terrain to the crash site just before 9 a.m. The pilot had already died.
