The 33-year-old woman who was killed while driving in Renton during Monday’s windstorm was the mother of a 2-year-old sitting in the backseat, according to the Renton Fire Department.

The woman was killed when a tree fell onto the vehicle she was driving. Her front-seat passenger, the driver’s 33-year-old sister, was seriously injured. The child sitting in the back seat had minor injuries.

The three were inside of a vehicle in the 15900 block of Southeast 179th Street.

Deputies said callers reported hearing the sound of a crash and then came out of their homes to see a tree had broken off and landed on a passing car after 6 p.m.

Neighbors rushed to the vehicle to help but could not reach the driver or front seat passenger. Deputies said neighbors pulled the toddler from her back seat until crews got to the scene.

When crews arrived, the driver was pronounced dead. They had to cut the roof off of the car to get to the front passenger.

The front passenger and toddler were taken to Harborview Medical Center.
