Where Seattle used Lyft and Uber most in 2018 (and other insights)

Seattle didn’t make the list of most frequented Uber destinations across the globe — places like the Empire State Building or The Vatican claimed such notoriety. But the Emerald City was notable in one aspect: Coffee.

According to Uber, Seattle was the most caffeinated city in the world in 2018. That’s because the company’s Uber Eats service delivered more coffee in Seattle than anywhere else. That’s right — people in Seattle like coffee so much, they will pay to have someone pick up a cup and drive it across town to them.

That wasn’t the only observation from Seattle’s rideshare companies in 2018. Washington showed its love for CenturyLink Field over the year. Uber notes that the popular destination in the entire state was CenturyLink Field. Lyft also points out that CenturyLink was the most frequented concert venue in 2018.

Uber’s food delivery service, UberEats, also reports Seattle’s favorite foods. These were the most popular delivered dishes in Seattle in 2018.

  1. Burgers
  2. Poke bowls
  3. Fries
  4. Pizza
  5. Wings
  6. Tacos
  7. Pho

The 2018 Lyfties

Seattle’s other rideshare company, Lyft, recently announced its annual Lyfties — awards given to the most frequented local spots over the past year.

The 2018 Lyfties also reinforce another Seattle stereotype — for craft beer. Last year, Lyft’s most popular bar destination was Fremont Brewing. The most popular bar in 2018 was another brewery — Optimism Brewing Company on Capitol Hill.

Capitol Hill is responsible for a great deal of Lyft’s 2018 business. Other neighborhoods and locations also featured in the 2018 Lyfties:

  • Most frequented concert venue: CenturyLink Field (Safeco Field was the most frequented event space in 2017 and 2016)
  • Most frequented fitness studio: Washington Athletic Club
  • Most frequented brunch spot: Portage Bay Cafe
  • Most frequented late-night restaurant: Big Mario’s Pizza on Capitol Hill
  • Most frequented late-night neighborhood: Capitol Hill
  • Attraction most visited only in Seattle: Seattle Center (Pike Place Market in 2017, and the Space Needle in 2016)

Lyft didn’t rank most popular brunch or late-night restaurants in 2017 (it changes things up a bit each year), but Art Marble won “most visited restaurant” last year; Dick’s Drive-In won in 2016.

Side note: Uber also looked into the most delivered food items across the world via Uber Eats. Topping the list in the number one and number two spots is toast and avocado. So go ahead and start the millennial shaming.
