Northern Lights spotted in Tuesday’s night sky throughout western WA

Nov 11, 2025, 6:50 PM | Updated: Nov 12, 2025, 8:04 am

The Northern Lights, known as the aurora borealis, are lighting up the night, thanks to a relatively clear sky over western Washington on Tuesday evening.

The Northern Lights are visible in the Pacific Northwest late Tuesday and early Wednesday due to a geomagnetic storm passing through the region. A coronal mass ejection, which is an eruption of solar material and magnetic fields from the Sun, was set to hit Earth late Tuesday. Coronal mass ejections have the ability to create displays of the Northern Lights.

KIRO listeners and MyNorthwest readers have reported seeing the Northern Lights in Auburn, Hobart, and Maple Valley.

According to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center, the aurora borealis might be visible throughout the northern half of the country.

“Need your camera to see it best,” Cahrlie Harger, co-host of “Seattle’s Morning News” on KIRO Newsradio, reported.

If you see the northern lights, take a picture and share it with us on MyNorthwest’s photo page.
