Entrepreneur of the Week: Skyler Bissell and OLEO CBD products

Mar 13, 2019, 10:48 AM | Updated: Oct 10, 2024, 2:27 pm

Skyler Bissell is seeking an alternative to marijuana. That’s why he co-founded OLEO, a company that makes flavored CBD that dissolves into a drink. He was the entrepreneur of the week on the Saul Spady Show.

Like almost every entrepreneur we have interviewed on the show, this isn’t Skyler’s first gig. He has dipped his toes into several different business ventures. But with OLEO, he has finally found a project to really sink his teeth into.

“I think a side-hustle is positive if you’re looking to develop something, but once you have something to really latch on to and dedicate all of your effort to, it just simply takes all of your effort,” Skyler said.

CBD is different than THC. It has several different health benefits, and is entirely non-psychoactive. In other words, it does not get you high.

“Studies suggest that CBD is helpful in treating inflammation and certain other things like stress and anxiety … people are using it after a long day of work, or after a work out to really renew their body and revive their mind. Our mission is to allow people to enjoy their life more and reach their full potential.”

CBD comes from industrial hemp which was legalized by the 2018 industrial farm bill. It is not sold at any of the numerous marijuana dispensaries you’ve seen popping up all over the place in Washington. It is sold at health food and grocery stores.

“There needs to be a way for people to enjoy the more medicinal side of the hemp plant any time of day,” Bissell said. “When you’re on the radio here, when you’re at the office, after work, at your yoga class. That’s why we use CBD in our products.”

Skyler thinks this is just the beginning for CBD.

“I think that now that the farm bill has passed, the big next step is that the FDA needs to come up with a method to regulate CBD in food products. We think that’s going to happen in the next year.”

Listen to the Saul Spady Show weekdays from 6-9 a.m. on AM 770 KTTH.
