Gee: ‘I love everything’ about Geno Smith, DK Metcalf trades

Mar 10, 2025, 10:22 AM

Days after the shocking news that quarterback Geno Smith was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, Seahawks fans learned Monday morning that star wide receiver DK Metcalf is off to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“The Gee and Ursula Show” co-host and Seahawks Gameday host Gee Scott says he “loves” the moves, crediting Seahawks general manager John Schneider for important moves setting them up for the future.

“I love everything that John Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks are doing. They are getting it right,” Gee explained on “Seattle’s Morning News” on KIRO Newsradio. “When it comes to Gino Smith, [he] is 34 years old, and someone who was probably trying to get $40 to $45 million a season. I believe that the Seahawks are like, ‘Thanks, but no thanks. We’ll try to go after someone that we could pay 30 to $35 million a season, and maybe that might be younger.'”

Gee mentioned 27-year-old Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold as a possible replacement. Darnold has entered free agency.

Setting Seahawks up for success

While Gee says Metcalf is undoubtedly a star wide receiver, “I’d argue and tell you, the best NFL teams are not the teams with the highest paid wide receivers.”

“You can already see right now where the Seahawks John Schneider are positioning themselves to make a better team,” Gee noted of a weekend deal to hang onto defensive lineman Jarran Reed.

“You win NFL games differently than you win fantasy football games,” Gee explained.
