Boy Scouts honor Bill Gates

Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder, Gates Foundation leader, and one of the richest men in the world, was a boy scout as a child. Tomorrow, he’ll receive a high honor from the scouts when they present him with the Silver Buffalo Award.

The award has been handed out since 1925 to recognize community service. A statement says they chose Gates this year because he has a “deep commitment to improving the lives of the world’s most disadvantaged people.”

Gates will receive his award at a luncheon in Seattle Tuesday. A few members of Gates’ Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop and his Scoutmaster also are expected to attend. Incidentally, William Gates Sr. was an Eagle Scout.
