Dori and Dave talk Mariners curse, Wagner-Thomas well-wishes

ESPN’s Dave Wyman stopped by the Dori Monson Show to chat with Dori about the latest sports happenings in Seattle.

With the news that Mariners second-baseman Dee Gordon is on Major League Baseball’s 10-day disability list following a toe fracture, Dori began to wonder if the Mariners are fighting some sort of curse this season.
“What kind of jinx is attached to this Mariner team?” Dori asked Dave.
Gordon’s removal came just days after the announcement that star player Robinson Cano — formerly second-baseman before Gordon replaced him — was suspended for 80 games due to the use of a banned substance.
It’s a shame, Dori said, since the Mariners would otherwise be able to be very optimistic about the season.
“They’ve been playing really, really well, but over time, if you lose two of your three best hitters, I don’t know how you bounce back from that,” Dori said.
“Dee Gordon was their best hitter, by far, and their best on the bases,” Dave agreed.
He added that lately, it seems like each week brings more bad news for the Mariners.
Wagner and Thomas reconciliation?
Switching gears to football, Dave brought up the fact that Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, speaking to ESPN’s Brock Huard and Mike Salk on Monday, gave a shout-out to safety Earl Thomas. Thomas was absent from the start of organized team activities this week.
“I think he’s an amazing player, he’s an amazing person, he’s a Hall of Famer,” Wagner had said in the interview. “And just let him know that we’re over here and we’re wishing for the best in that situation and we’re thinking about him. And I just want him to know that.”
Wagner and Thomas had a bit of a tiff last December, after Thomas told reporters that Wagner shouldn’t have played while injured. Based on Wagner’s interview, however, it would appear all is patched up between the two.
“I think it was important to do that,” Dave said. “My first impression was, what a great man and great leader Bobby Wagner is.”
Dave went on to describe Wagner with perhaps the highest praise a father can give — “the guy you want to date your daughter.”
