Should Floyd Mayweather be allowed to participate in a charity softball event at Safeco Field? KIRO Radio's Don O'Neill doesn't think so.

He had good intentions for inviting Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a charity softball game, but Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman may have done more harm than good.

“I think Richard screwed up,” KIRO Radio’s Don O’Neill said. “He should fix this.”

Though Sherman was probably just trying to fill seats for the game on July 19 at Safeco Field, it could do the exact opposite, Don said.

Since he announced Mayweather’s appearance on July 8, Sherman has received a good amount of backlash on social media.

Like the above tweet says, Mayweather has a history of beating women, which is exactly why Richard Sherman fans are up in arms over the decision to invite the boxer to a charity softball game.

But will people be able to separate Mayweather’s private life with something he is doing for a good cause? There’s no doubt Mayweather is a big name and talented athlete, KIRO Radio’s Ron Upshaw said.

Even Sherman seemed surprised by all the negative comments about someone showing up to support charity.

But fans weren’t having it.

If Mayweather apologized for his history of domestic violence, maybe people would accept his presence at the softball game that is touted as a “fun, family affair” that will raise support and awareness for charitable causes. Donating some of his earning to charity might help as well.

Sherman should tell Mayweather to not come to the game, Don said.

“He should pick up the phone and say ‘this is not going to work,'” Don said.
