Hell freezes over: Dori agrees with McGinn on two issues

Dori Monson is an avowed critic of Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. So he hates to admit he now agrees with McGinn on two issues – a new Seattle arena and naming a city street after beloved TV clown J.P. Patches.
“I think that would be a nice tribute,” Monson says of the mayor’s proposal to rename N. 34th Street in Fremont as “J.P. Patches Place.”
Monson was one of the speakers at a recent memorial service for Chris Wedes, who died in July after a long battle with blood cancer. His J.P. Patches show was one of the longest running local children’s show in the nation, airing locally from 1958 to 1981.
“I think that that honor should be reserved for the very, very most revered of civic figures. Dave Neihaus, absolutely. J.P. Patches, yes. I’m fully behind it.”
Monson admits it’s not easy agreeing with McGinn, calling him a “horrible mayor” for many of his policies.
“So it pains me that there are now two issues in a row that I agree with,” Monson says.
