UPDATE:

Kayla says they spent some time with tape measures at their wedding venue to map out distancing and they plan to hold their wedding day outside.

“It was either un-invite people or re-plan the entire wedding,” Kayla told Dori on Friday. “We re-planned the entire wedding from the ground up.”

Her original guest list was 136 people. Kayla was going to have to un-invite 33 guests.

Kayla is merely hours from her wedding day and is struggling to figure out logistics as her home county is rolling back to Phase 2.

She told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson on Wednesday that she almost immediately called the governor’s office when she heard Inslee issued a news release early this week announcing Pierce County would be one of three counties to move from Phase 3 to Phase 2 on Friday.

Bride in tears as Inslee rolls back Pierce County the day before her wedding

On Thursday, when the governor finally held a news conference to address the state’s COVID-19 response, KIRO Radio’s Hanna Scott asked him about people in Kayla’s situation.

“The wedding issue, it’s hard — these are frustrations,” Gov. Inslee said. “I hope the couple will have a great wedding. I hope they have a future where they can all celebrate as much as they can. I wish them well, hopefully they have half as much luck in marriage as I have had.”

Kayla, whose husband is active duty military, is worried Saturday will be one of her last chances to see family for a few years before she and her fiancé ship out. And while she’s considered breaking the rules to have the wedding, she doesn’t want to put her vendors in that situation. Her caterer, DJ, and photographer could each potentially be fined $1,000 and lose their business license.

Outdoor social gatherings in Phase 2 are limited to 15 people from outside of your household, with a maximum of two total households permitted to be in attendance. Read more about Phase 2 rules here.
