Just call the Emmys the Modern Family Awards
Sep 19, 2011, 8:53 AM

“Welcome to the Modern Family Awards,” that was Emmy host Jane Lynch’s quip, coming back from commercial, after the ABC show swept the first four awards of the evening for best supporting actor and actress, best writing and directing.
It then capped off the event with the final Emmy of the night too, for Best Comedy, which it won last year as well.
In fact there was a lot of repeat business on Sunday.
In addition to the Modern Family repeat, Mad Men won best drama for the fourth time in a row, and The Daily Show won for the ninth time!
Jim Parsons also won for Best Actor in a comedy for the Big Bang Theory for the second time in a row. (Preventing Steve Carell from winning in his swan song on The Office.)
There WERE also some first time winners in the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards- Best Actor in a Drama, in something of a surprise, went to Kyle Chandler – the football coach in Friday Night Lights.
And Melissa McCarthy won Best Actress in a Comedy
for Mike and Molly. For that category, each of the nominees gathered on stage as if they were in a beauty pageant. When McCarthy won, in a surprise, she was given a crown and roses, along with the Emmy.
“Holy smokes, Wow! It’s my first and best pageant ever,” said McCarthy.
Jane Lynch, who plays the love-to-hate coach of the cheerleaders on Glee, was only a so-so as a host, I thought. But she did get off the best line of the night.
She said a lot of people are curious about why she is a lesbian. Her answer? Ladies and Gentlemen, I present the cast of Entourage, she said.
Entourage is about a bunch of young and cocky and boorish Hollywood guys, in case you’re unfamiliar.
