Dori: Mayor Murray never needs federal money for frivolous purchases

Seattle Mayor Ed Murray wants to buy a new system so that when a gun is shot in the city, audio sensors are activated and video cameras turn on. But there was one line in his Thursday announcement that’s extra interesting: that he’s hoping federal funds will be available to help pay for this project.

Isn’t it interesting that when Ed Murray wants to put rainbow crosswalks in the city, that money is available. They find the money. They can find money for the frivolous, the unnecessary. But gun violence – well, we’re hoping the feds can come up with some money because we can’t afford that.

The fact is that we could afford that — if we didn’t blow so much money on nonsense. This is another glaring example of the lack of leadership in this city that has marked Mayor Murray’s tenure.
