Passenger: Faith in train travel remains unshaken

Tony Raimondi of Gig Harbor was a passenger on the Amtrak train that derailed on Monday morning.
“The train just started to lean, and then the ride got rough, the lights went out and stuff started flying around. After that we were dusting ourselves off,” Raimondi told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson on Tuesday.
Raimondi was able to make it out of the wreck with just a few scratches and bruises. And though the event was traumatic, he said he won’t think twice about riding a train in the future.
“The rails in this country and all over the world carry millions of people every day on commuter trains and inner city trains with very, very few incidents,” he said. “Rail travel is a very safe form of transportation, but it’s unfortunate that things happen.”
