GPS track finds car down ravine

Aug 2, 2013, 9:14 AM | Updated: 10:30 am

The family of a missing Renton man used the GPS function on his cell phone to find his truck more than 200 feet down a ravine in Maple Valley Thursday night.

There was a body inside the truck, but it has not been identified as the missing 54-year-old man.

King County Detective Jason Stanley said it’s possible the driver had a medical issue before the accident. “The area’s pretty rural,” he said. “It looks like the man’s truck left the roadway on a curve, and it appeared the vehicle went straight instead of turning.”

It took more than eight hours to get the truck out of the ravine. An autopsy will determine if the man died as a result of the crash or of a medical issue.
