Rantz: The insufferable ‘so-called judge’ hypocrisy
Feb 6, 2017, 6:44 AM | Updated: 11:27 am
President Donald Trump sent out a tweet criticizing a Republican judge for temporary stalling the president’s temporary ban. But a problem: the people calling Trump out are engaged in nearly identical, ridiculous behavior.
It’s not news that the president sent out a stupid tweet. He does it on a regular basis. And Trump is rightfully criticized for his tweet. Judge James Robart isn’t a “so-called judge” but an actual judge; a conservative one, appointed by President George W. Bush.
Related: You’re all nuts. And I’m sorry too
But you can’t call out Trump “so-called judge” remark in the same tweet as #NotMyPresident. You see, Trump is your president and mine. For better or worse, he’s our president. You know who actually qualifies as #NotMyPresident? Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. They’re actually not our president.
There’s this righteous indignation with the #NotMyPresident movement: that you’re above being tied to this man as your president because you revile what he stands for (we know you’re so angry because you can’t send a tweet without claiming some kind of outrage). You’re so much more evolved — a better person, even — how dare anyone think you support Trump. You’re outraged by the “so-called judge” because it’s disrespectful and just flat-out wrong! Yet, you act in the same petty, silly way that Trump does. You’d have such a great argument if you didn’t act like less successful versions of Trump.
You can’t claim any moral high ground when you act as foolish as the person you condemn.
And conservatives: you’re also acting like hypocrites. How many more pictureless Twitter profiles must I see telling me how the judge was acting politically and must be removed from the bench? Something tells me the Egg profile with 13 followers isn’t a world class legal expert but, ya know, I read a few legal books (mostly fiction) so I’m an expert: you don’t get to claim judicial activism every time you don’t like a decision. You can’t scream at Progressives for being sore losers wanting to scrap the Electoral College, then cry when a judge doesn’t rule in your favor. This is the process. It’s a great process. The outcome wasn’t shocking. This is the most meaningless of the future decisions on this case.
Please think about that the next time you fill my feed with insufferable tweet after tweet angry at the guy who is your president.
