President Trump wants to make sure we can’t blame him

President Donald Trump again let cameras roll as he met with lawmakers in the cabinet room to discuss gun laws on Feb. 28.
I think President Trump’s critics were gobsmacked. Because again we saw him casually pushing policies that the NRA detests.
I no longer want to read minds
He endorsed a Senate bill sponsored by Republican Pat Toomey and Democrat Joe Manchin, which imposes background checks for all commercial transactions. The bill died under Obama, but Manchin said it could easily pass under Trump.
“We were just afraid President Obama would take it further and take more rights away. This is a bill that, basically with your support, would pass.”
But then President Trump himself said why don’t we take it further and raise the age to buy a rifle? And then on the mentally ill, he said we should take their guns immediately and then have due process! That tripped the sprinkler system at both the NRA and the ACLU.
Why is he doing this? Well, what he said to open the meeting on Wednesday may give a clue.
“When you look at Columbine, Bill Clinton was president. Virginia Tech, George Bush…”
President Trump began listing presidents and the massacres on their watch but stopped before the three that have already happened on his watch. I think he realizes you can’t blame immigrants, and you can’t blame Al-Qaeda. And as a law-and-order president, he wants to make damn sure nobody can blame him.
