Bear mace, machete couldn’t stop dog attack in Kitsap County that injured 7

A vicious dog attack injured seven people and killed a neighbor’s pet in Kitsap County on Wednesday.

The attack occurred near 2nd Avenue W. and Earhart Street in unincorporated Bremerton, where a man was attempting to fend off multiple attacking dogs, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office KCSO) reported.

Dog attack injures 7 in Kitsap County

The owner of the four dogs told deputies that he took one of them outside for a walk on a leash when his dog spotted another dog in the neighborhood.

His dog became aggressive and lunged at the other dog. His three other dogs then burst through an open door and joined the attack, eventually turning on people who tried to intervene.

Deputies ushered a man who was being attacked by the three dogs to their vehicle as a deputy pepper-sprayed the attacking dogs, which was ineffective.

“One guy was spraying the bear mace and was spraying the dogs with bear mace, and it ended up in the air, so I think most of us got maced. But, [the dogs] did not care. They did not stop,” neighbor Lauren Laney told KOMO News.

After the man was safe inside a patrol vehicle, the dogs began to attack other people who were on the street.

“Sir, your dogs are going to get shot unless you get them,” a KCSO deputy said during the fight.

KCSO noted that at one point during the fight, a bystander pulled out a small machete to try and stop the dogs.

“It was the most animalistic, barbaric scene,” an anonymous neighbor told KOMO News.

Seven people suffered dog bites during the altercation, with six being transported to Saint Michael’s Medical Center with severe wounds.

One person was severely injured by a bite wound to the face.

The dogs were then taken into custody by Kitsap Animal Control, and the owner is under investigation for owning dangerous animals.

Several bystanders who witnessed the incident revealed that the dog that was being attacked, Jasper, passed away, though it is unclear how the dog died, according to KOMO News.
