U.S. 2 at Stevens Pass and Interstate 90 on Snoqualmie Pass both reopened Saturday morning, despite a heavy dump of snowfall overnight.

Officials say 22 inches of new snow fell.

WSDOT officials reopened Snoqualmie first, just after 8:00 a.m., and required all vehicles without all wheel drive to have tire chains.

Later they changed that restriction to requiring traction tires on all vehicles.

Traction tires are also required for all vehicles headed over Stevens Pass.

Highway 410 between Enumclaw and Greenwater remains closed.

All these highway closures were due to this week’s severe winter weather, which caused numerous spinouts and collisions on Friday.

In addition, a mudslide overnight shut down the highway to Paradise on Mount Rainier for several hours Saturday morning.

SR 706 closed just west of Ashford, due to the highway being blocked by mud and debris on the road.

It has since reopened.

White Pass is also open, but conditions are difficult.

Traction tires are advised, and oversized vehicles are prohibited.

There is compact snow and slush on the roadway.

Meantime, I-405 is closed in Bothell again this weekend.

The freeway won’t reopen until early Monday morning.

WSDOT is removing the old ramps at the interchange.

A new bridge is being built in the space.
