Parks Tacoma has scheduled a public virtual workshop for 6 p.m. on Sept. 2, where participants will be asked to rank eight program areas in the 2027 operating budget and communicate resident priorities.
Programs under evaluation include maintenance and operations, youth programs and sports, community centers, regional attractions, capital planning, recreation programs, aquatics, and safety and security.
The new budget process follows a $17-million deficit in the 2025-26 budget. Since then, Parks Tacoma has added financial-oversight measures, contracted an independent internal auditor, and shifted from biennial to an annual budgeting.
The board is scheduled to review the proposed budget Oct. 26, with adoption planned for Nov. 9.
