Popular athleisure brand Alo Yoga could be moving into downtown Seattle.

Permit records obtained by The Seattle Times show the company is planning to move into the former Old Navy building at 511 Pine St.

Alo is looking to update the inside and outside of the building and create a two-level, 7,500-square-foot store. The Old Navy closed in 2023, according to The Seattle Times.

Alo was founded in 2007 but took off in the last few years thanks to collaborations with celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber. Alo rebranded, creating The Alosphere, “an ecosystem of total mind and body wellness,” as shown on its website.

Competitors include Nike and Lululemon, as athletic wear continues to rise alongside popular workout classes like Pilates and Lagree.

The Seattle store would be Alo’s second Washington location, after its Bellevue store.

Alo eyes downtown Seattle amid concerns over its future

The move comes as downtown Seattle’s economy shifts downward. Two major takeaways from a recent survey by the Seattle Metro Chamber were that it’s difficult to afford to run a business in Seattle and that the city has lost the progress it made leading up to and during the World Cup in terms of crime and public safety.

The Seattle Chamber’s latest quality-of-life index surveyed 700 Seattle voters between Sept. 23 and Oct. 1.

“There was really no sustained honeymoon after the World Cup,” Chamber President and CEO Joe Nguyen said Tuesday.

The survey found 65% believe Seattle is losing the positive momentum on public safety and quality of life associated with the World Cup.

Of those surveyed, 77% said they are worried about the future of downtown. Respondents reported feeling less safe visiting downtown, with a more pronounced decline in perceived safety at night.
