I-90 drivers get relief from rock blasting for now

One of the busiest construction seasons on Interstate 90 east of Snoqualmie Pass is wrapping up for winter.
Evening rock blasting closures are complete for now, and a new section of roadway opened Oct. 14. Roadside work zones will be cleared by mid-November.
Drivers will appreciate the smooth two-mile stretch of new, wider roadway near the Price Creek area, about nine miles east of the Snoqualmie Pass summit.
Earlier this summer, one of two new avalanche bridges opened to traffic. The westbound wildlife overcrossing began taking shape. All this work is part of a major improvement project to widen I-90 from four to six lanes between Hyak and Easton.
“We had a lot of work going on this summer all over I-90 and we really want to thank drivers for all their patience,” said Brian White, assistant regional administrator for construction.
Drivers could still experience some minor delays due to lane closures and rolling slowdowns at the top of the pass as well as lane closures near Cle Elum and Ellensburg.
Rock blasting on I-90 is expected to resume in spring 2017.
